1. I am not sure I can attach the original as it is quite large, and I don't have an extract for a sample. 2. already pasted in original post. 3. no output file since an error occured. 4. like #2, error message mentioned in original post. 5. No conversion options changed from default. But before I proceed, it appears (per your 2nd link), that PDF is the worst/most complex format to convert to. Quite unfortunate because I love the formats and reading tools using Adobe Reader in my IPad2. Anyway, are there other free readers as good as (or better than) Adobe Reader, and use formats that I can convert my Kindle book into using Calibre w/ ease? Currently reading the book in Kindle but it's quite lacking in tools and features. Thanks. |

There are a wide variety of ePub readers for the iPad and in my experience that is probably the best format for the iPad. My favourite ereader app is Marvin (which has good integration with Calibre), but others have their own preferences. |

Yes @itimpi, currently I use Kindle for IPad but like I mentioned, it lacks some features that I use in Adobe reader while reading my PDF books.
I'm downloading Marvin free. But will I have to convert my book in Amazon Kindle format to epub for use in Marvin? Then I would get the same error as in my original post. |

That said you do need to follow step 1 of the 1st link provided if you expect a resolution. Exactly how large is it? What format is it, azw4 perhaps? Last edited by DoctorOhh; 03-24-2014 at 07:59 AM. |

My fault again - I saw PDF somewhere in error log, and assumed it was reading PDF, I missed seeing
InputFormatPlugin: MOBI Input running on D:\Win7\TEMP\calibre_hnvf2f\ftkzvq.mobi @sherpa - I am still not 100% certain I know which format you are converting from and which format you are converting to. And I'm less certain which format you would prefer to read on your iPad. I had the impression it might be PDF - but then you mentioned Marvin, which I thought was primarily an EPUB reader. BR |

Thanks @DoctorOhh and @BetterRed. I'll try to clarify, sorry for any confusion.
It is an .azw format, a book I recently bought from Amazon. I can read it on Kindle for PC. (I also have a copy in my IPad2 and read it using the iPad Kindle app). Obviously, the file I am working on, and trying to convert to PDF format through Calibre, is the .azw file in my PC. I wish to convert it from .azw to PDF because most of my books are in PDF format, and I prefer the tools available in Adobe reader. This is the only book I have in Kindle format, and I find the Kindle app somewhat lacking in tools. @DoctorOhh, I can try upload it. It is 10mb. Should I upload the whole .azw file over here? I believe the error in the original post might be due to the DRM? Not sure. @BetterRed, original copy is in .azw format, the format w/c is downloaded by Kindle in PC from Amazon. Like I mentioned, I also have a copy of the same book in my IPad2 (not sure what format it is on). I simply want to convert the .azw file on my PC into PDF format, and then copy that PDF file to my iPad for reading in Adobe reader. Also, I mentioned about Marvin on the succeeding post because @Itimpi suggested it. ![]() I hope this is clearer. Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide. @sherpa
DO NOT post any book the is in copyright here at MR. That will get you banned faster than anything. |

Is this a fictional novel? I'm ignorant of all things Kindle but I ask because some of their books are PDF files in a AZW wrapper. You can find out more info in Mobileread's wiki, try these topics: AZW, KindleUnpack, and KindleGen. If it is DRM protected and you attempt to view it using calibre's viewer you will get a message saying it is DRM protected. If you have not visited Apprentice Alf's page and installed tools found there then it is most likely DRM protected. We cannot give you specific instructions (against forum policy) on how to remove DRM, google Apprentice Alf for more info. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 03-24-2014 at 10:17 PM. |

Thanks @DoctorOhh. But the error I encounter happens during conversion in Calibre, and I believe nothing to do w/ DRM because it has already been deDRM'ed w/ the plugin. It is after conversion where I get the error I posted in the 1st post. Shouldn't that be reported here?
