PW2 Build quality

Just wondering is there a known issue with the build quality of the PW2? I bought one a week ago and it had lots of dead pixels/"bright spots", received the replacement unit today and it too has dead black pixels. At this point Im tempted to just cancel the order entirely. Is this a known issue or am I just unlucky?

Are these really noticeable black spots? All eInk screens have tiny black specks on them if you look at them very closely.

No theyre pretty noticeable, I've owned a number of ereaders before, including the 1st gen paperwhite so Im familiar enough with the screens. I wouldnt mind if it was at the side but its right in the center of the screen. I'll probably just put up with it, its annoying, especially on a replacement unit but its less hassle than replacing it again.

You certainly shouldn't have to put up with it. What you're describing is definitely not normal.

I don't think you should put up with it either. You paid for a new, properly-working Kindle and that's what you should have.

I'd send it back. Amazon tends to be very good about replacements.

I've had a number of different Kindles, and have never had one with dead pixels. You'll get a good one.

I vote for sending it back as well. Especially if the black dot is in the middle of the screen. That would drive me crazy! Love my PW2, and hope you get a good one next time around.

Dead pixels/bright spots aren't unknown, but I don't think they are a particularly common issue. The build quality of the PW2 has been far, far better than the original PW. I tried two PW's neither of them had any dead pixels, so it seems you've just been unlucky. Definitely send it back for a replacement.

Between me and family, we had three PWs and two PW2s. I have not seen a dead pixel yet, although the three PWs have screens of varying quality (some uniform, some rainbows).

I have owned several e-readers (no Kindles) and non of them have had black spots. Apparently the lighted screen are much more prone to this.

Look at the screen very closely and you'll see tiny black speckles on the screen. All eInk screens have them.
