Any rumors about upcoming models?

Hello everyone

are there any rumors about new ereader models, which could be released in the next few months.

If one analyses the past development cycle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobo_eReader#Current), one can see some kind of system behind updates. Actually, I would like to avoid buying an aura hdl, if there is an update in april (I know, buy only if you need rule, but...), therefore I'm just curious, wether there is any leaks ragarding this topic.

I would expect a new release to be for the Christmas season.

But then again, we're talking Kobo here...

I would love to know as well. I am about to purchase an Aura HD and would wait if another updated one is soon to be released.

Both Kobo and Amazon tend to release readers in the late fall (well, not so much Kobo but their last release was last October. The HD came out in April of last year but that was more of a one off thing. I suspect that a new Aura and Aura HD will be released at the same time next time).

Kobo have said that the Aura HD sold a lot better than they expected and that they planned to continue with it. I think the only reason it would disappear is if the couldn't source the screens. But, I could see a new version with a different shaped case.

The only hint of anything new coming is in the firmware package. "bin/kobo_config.sh" has the following code:

"kraken" is the code name for the Glo. Previous versions of the file only had the "E606B" line for the Glo. The other suggests there is a hardware revision coming for the Glo. It probably means internal changes like the Touch has gone through.

IIRC, the legend was that the HD started with a batch of the screens that the manufacturer couldn't sell to anyone except for Kobo. So yeah, it might depend on whether that manufacturer is planning to continue with those screens or whether it's just happy to get rid of them. Then again, if the sales are really that good, it shouldn't be too expensive for them to renew the production even if they stopped.

That rumour was killed as soon as it started. The design cycle for something like this is far to long to take advantage of something like that.

I thought many people explained the brokeback design by haste as well. But yeah, you're probably right.

I thought the rumour was that the hardware design was the manufacturer's reference design.

I am eagerly awaiting the launch of the hands-free HOVER KOBO model, that I requested in the 'ultimate kobo' thread. Surely the developers won't ignore our requests.
