New iBooks has deleted my books

I had a number of stories that I had collected in .txt format, tidied up and with Calibre's help, made them into ebooks for my own private reading on my iPad. Since Apple introduced the new iBooks program, these have now disappeared from iPad, desktop iMac and presumably the cloud too. Anyone know any way of sneaking them back onto my iPad? - iBooks isn't my only reader.

I recommend using Marvin for iOS as your epub reader on your iPad. Marvin is supported as a device by the iOS reader application plugin, and has its own support forum here on MobileRead.

I'll certainly give it a try.

Well, I've spent the last hour playing with Marvin, downloaded, installed, configured two scary plugins, but I still can't do anything with it at all. It won't even let me go to a store. It nearly accepted a book from my Cablibre iibrary, but it took a dislike to it and finally crashed Calibre. Perhaps i'll try another day.

If you'd like assistance with the 'scary' plugins, please visit the iOS reader applications plugin thread.

For general assistance with Marvin, please visit the Marvin forum here on MobileRead.

If an ebook was rejected when you tried to send it to Marvin, that most likely means it was not a valid epub. If it was an epub you created yourself, you can get assistance in calibre's Conversion subforum.

The only bit I could make sense of was something about not having a cover. Well, I have a cover page that I created myself and it worked fine with my old version of iBooks, but there's obviously some box I haven't ticked.

Ah. Now, I've read the destructions again, I see it tells me to remove my Apple iTunes plug-in and that I then won't be able to use iBooks. I'm not sure if I want to take that step.

Marvin is a little confusing to get started with and especially getting your books to, since you have to select something from your connected iDevice. However, once you get it sorted, you will wonder why you ever bothered with iBooks. Getting books into Marvin is a snap after the initial learning curve -- it was simple to get my 4000+ book library on there. That would have been undoable with iTunes.

I'd suggest removing the iTunes plug-in. If things don't work out you can always reinstall it. Marvin's creator is active here on MR and if you have any problems and post in the Marvin forum he or someone else knowledgeable will help you.
