Reader Store will be closing tomorrow at 6 p.m. (EST)

Just a reminder in case anyone here hasn't downloaded backups.

No definite date or details on the Kobo migration in the email I received.

Quote:

Dear Reader Store customer:

Reader Store will be closing tomorrow, March 20, 2014 at 6 p.m. (EST). Although we are sorry to say goodbye, we are confident that the transition to Kobo will allow you to continue to enjoy a high quality e-reading experience.

Migrating to Kobo
In the next few days, you will receive a notification from us with a link that will allow you to transfer your library to Kobo. Whether you are new to Kobo or already have an account, you'll be able to transfer your Reader Store eBooks to your Kobo account so you'll continue to have access to them in the future. Plus, any existing Reader Store credits you might still have in your account will transfer to your Kobo account to use at the Kobo Store. And of course, you can continue to use your Sony Reader to read eBooks from Kobo.

Please note that any pre-ordered eBooks that will not be available until after our store closure will not be fulfilled or transferred to Kobo, and your pre-order has been cancelled.

We are fully committed to helping you through this exciting transition to Kobo. With the Kobo Store, you'll have more than 4 million of the world's best eBooks, magazines, comics, and kids' titles at your fingertips.

We want to thank you for being such loyal customers, a part of our reading family, and for your continued support as we work to complete this transition. It has been a pleasure reading with you!

Sincerely,

The Reader Store Team

T-minus 1 hour 33 minutes ...

I'm tempted to try to connect to 5 minutes after the Close just to see what happens.

Reader Store will be closing tomorrow at 6 p.m. (EST)

I was browsing around at closing time. At 3:03 (Pacific) my next click went to "we'll be back shortly" saying they were undergoing maintenance. Guess that's it.

As a Californian, I was still able to get access to my books. Just could not purchase new ones.

Yes, you can download eBooks you previously purchased at Reader Store until April 30, 2014.

The closed notice says the email to transfer to Kobo will be received sometime in "late March". It's nice that you can still log-in until April 30th.

I still don't know why it had to be March 20th, wouldn't March 31st make more sense? I turned on my reader before I went to bed (because I forgot about the store) to see that while the store is close and expect Kobo to switch you over soon, you can still get to your account until April 30.

Thank you! I've been waiting for the email about migrating but now that I know I can still access things at the Reader Store I'm going to download what I need.

You guys are always so helpful!

You most absolutely should download anything that you haven't done from Sony. I just migrated to the Kobo store and lost a bunch of books. I already have everything on my computer so I'm not losing my mind over it. Most of the ones that didn't come over were freebies so again, no big deal.

The two that didn't move I am genuinely upset about but because they're on my computer & in Calibre I'm not stressing over. The Complete Fablehaven Series & The Lord of the Rings.

Kobo says they didn't move because they're not available in the Kobo store.

ETA:
They do have Lord of the Rings but apparently not the complete series in one book. They sell the individual books. *I thought I saw it there before!*

They do have it, I bought it there last year.

EDIT: They have it for the US at least. http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebo...of-the-rings-1

Yes, the 50th Anniversary omnibus edition (black cover art) was sold by HarperCollins while the current one (still 50th Anniversary) is sold by Houghton Mifflin. Although Kobo used to sell the HC version so they should have it on their servers for folks that bought it back then and should be able to add it to Sony people's accounts you'd think.

B&N had problems with that title when Fictionwise shut down, they gave everyone a copy of The Two Towers instead of the Omnibus. They never fixed the issue either despite telling people they were working on it.

I had $120 of gift card credit and it all transferred! Some of my books didn't transfer-but I expected that.

Question... how are you guys "transferring" your books over? Did you get the infamous email from Sony telling you how?

[UPDATE]: Only had to wait a few hours for the email to arrive from Sony. Only 48 of the 62 books I bought from Sony made it. But that is fine, the books that didn't make it I have copies on either my laptop or desktop computers. (And they were either free books or not the greatest of choice reading anyway)
