Can't Uninstall Calibre Portable

I've been running Calibre Portable at work off of a thumb drive for quite a while. We recently updated our desktop at work and I couldn't any longer run executable files like Calibre Portable directly off the thumb drive as a non-Admin. So I copied the whole Calibre Portable folder off the thumb drive and pasted it into my AppData folder (actual path = C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming) and ran it from there. Worked great. But IT saw it and asked me nicely to remove it if I didn't really need it for work. I can get by fine with Calibre on my home PC, so I said "Sure." I deleted the file from my work PC and re-started, but the file is still there. Since we run a networked system, Control Panel on my machine doesn't see it as a Program that can be uninstalled. There's no Uninstall file in Calibre Portable that I could find. There were some registry keys that seemed to belong to Calibre and I removed them and re-started, but Calibre Portable folder still shows up.

I'd really like to solve this issue without further involving our IT staff. How can I keep this folder from re-installing?

Deleting the Calibre Portable folder (and all contents) is the way to remove Calibre portable. No idea why that has not worked for you.

Did you make sure you were not running it at the time you tried to delete it - that might have locked some files.

Portable is only installed in the sense that a configuration script runs to put the (3 major) pieces in the expected places

1)The Calibre Library folder. This is just like ALL calibre Library folders. The folder can be copied over to a regular install or any place with full RW access.

2)Configuration folder (Calibre Settings) , except for some stored paths, this is pretty much the same

3) The Program Calibre-portable.exe and the supporting program files Calibre (this exact name) folder

So if you want to use the flash drive only as a Portable Library you can delete the program and folder listed in #3

If you don't want to save you settings and plugins. Delete #2


BTW there is nothing to prevent you from using 'Installed' Calibre with the Library on/in the Portable file structure. Same rule: Only ONE instance of Calibre connected to a single Library

Windows 7. If you all are right and deleting the folder would normally be all that's necessary, I'm beginning to think this may be a networking issue that I can't solve without the help of IT. I was trying to avoid that, but ...

Its probably in Registry settings that IT have implemented via the Group Policy Editor - ask your IT folks, nicely, to help you remove it.
