Do your children have their own ereaders?

Since me and my wife just got ourselves Kobo Glos, we decided to give our Bookeen Cybook Opuses to our daughters since they love to read books.

Does your kids have their own ereaders and how do they like reading from them? Our daughters handle cameras, phones and our ipads with care so I trust them taking care of their own ereaders as well.

Yep, all three. Of course they are in their 30 and 40's :-) but the grandkids from 10 or so into teens have all had them for couple years and read lots. Some have tablets some phones but all use them. Our great grand kid (2) is getting into tablet use but not reading as yet.

Many kids use tablets at school.

I've been amazed at how well kids take care of the electronics. Except for one anger situation I haven't heard of any damage, though I'm sure some kids do abuse them.

Forgot to mention, my daughters are 9 and 10. They use iPads for game and surfing the net, but reading was done with paper books until now.

My beloved Sony PRS-505, now retired, is resting unused in a drawer. From time to time I power it up, and when the battery is low, I give it a recharge. I keep it because it's beautiful and just in case my PRS-T2 dies...

I have an eleven year old boy who likes reading. Up to now, he has always read pbooks. I've been wondering if I should introduce him to e-reading.

I haven't been able to make up my mind. I have this old fashioned idea that, for children, pbooks are better than ebooks. I like the idea of my son building his own physical library, with the authors he likes (his taste is way different than mine) and I would like him to have a look at my childhood books sometime. On the other hand, I see that he doesn't treasure his books the way I used to. When he is done with a book, he puts it aside and that's it... so maybe he is ready to jump on the e-reading bandwagon.

In my opinion, ereader is not just another gadget that makes children hyperactive and attention deficited but it can truly be compared to a reading activity of a pbook. Only presentation is slighty different. There are no games, youtubes, facebooks and twitters. Only the stories in the books to be read.

My 11 year-old daughter resisted for a while, saying she liked paperbooks better. She "borrowed" my old Nook STR to read the Divergent series and now she's hooked. Her English teacher makes an effort to tell the kids when a class book is available from Gutenburg or wherever. She takes the Nook to school every day and reads during second lunch (First lunch reads must be in French. She *may* use the eReader to make enforcement of this rule difficult.) She ordered a bright purple case from eBay and customized her screensaver with cartoons.

My two oldest kids (13 and 9) both have Kindles. They both love them, but I wish they would take better care of them. Had to replace the oldest one's due to cracked screens multiple times during the 1-year warranty, and now she knows she's out of luck if it breaks again.

My 10 year old has had a Kindle for about two years now. He shares a room with his younger brother and was running out of places to store his books. His dad got fed up with all the books laying around and bought him a Kindle Touch.

He takes around with him pretty much everywhere and, in typical boy fashion, leaves it laying around pretty much everywhere as well. He still has the original case that we bought with it -- it looks quite a bit worn -- and is on his second M-Edge e-Luminator Touch light. The Kindle itself is in good condition.

He was not allowed to have it in class when he was in third grade, was encouraged to bring it in fourth grade, and it is again not allowed to bring it in fifth grade. (All by the teacher's discretion; I do not believe there is an official school policy.)

My husband saw a deal on an older model Kindle (third gen, with keyboard) and bought it for our daughter. She is only seven years old now, and has no interest in reading. What little reading she does, she prefers to do on paper books, although there are a couple of stories on the Kindle that she has enjoyed. I don't believe she has ever finished an entire chapter book, although she has started quite a lot of them.

My five year old does not (yet) have a dedicated ebook reader.

All three of my kids have Kindle Fires with the Scholastic Storia app and a dozen or so books each. The books are kind of expensive -- comparable in price to the paper versions sold in the flyers -- and I don't see any way to read them outside of the app, so I don't buy very many books from the store. They count toward classroom purchases, so I do buy books now and then because of that.

My daughter (just turned 11) has a Nook HD and LOVES to read on it. She will read until midnight, some nights. My other daughter (8) prefers paper books but will sometimes read on her Nook HD. My boys (16 & 13) don't really like reading ebooks, though the oldest one does sometimes.

Soiunds like me when I was a kid (as far as late night reading). Many nights my mother would have to say, "put down the book, turn out the light and go to sleep."

I gave my 7 year old daughter my old nook ST a couple weeks ago.
She's pretty good with electronics so I'm not too worried.
I wasn't sure how well she'd take to it because she has access to the ipad and I have let her read a few picture books on the nook tablet - but she likes the eink.

Nope.

My son is a casual reader. He probably reads more than most of his friends, but he prefers to take a book off the shelf and read. (We still have plenty of books on shelves.)

My daughter is a big reader, but she really fell in love with reading when I took her to a used book store when she was in elementary school. She's now a big visitor to the used book store in her college town. Every time I offered she said she really prefers the whole "book" experience. But, as an impoverished college student, she may be reconsidering -- I pointed out that many of the classics she recently bought were public domain and available free as ebooks. She'd have saved money if she bought an ereader or cheap tablet and downloaded the files. So, maybe next year.

I work with children and youth, and have found that they generally take very good care of their electronics. Of course it all depends upon the child. Some won't take care of anything, while most seem to break a couple of things before they figure it out. But the prevailing attitude seems to be that the stuff on the device is more important than the device itself, which somehow makes the device irreplaceable.

My daughter broke a couple, and now that she is 16, she refuses to read on an ereader. Says she prefers paper (actually, the only thing she enjoys reading is a catalogue), while her father and I always have our ereaders at our sides.

Yes.

I have 2 kids, 11 and 13.

My wife and I have Kobo Glos.
We originally had Kobo Touches, which we gave to our kids once we got the Glos.

The kids love the ereaders and use them a lot, especially when they goto bed and they just read until they get tired.
