readers, pdfs advices
Hello Guys!
Sorry for my topic about this cause I am sure somebody already asked them, but there are so many information on this forum that I am already lost. I have just bought a new AURA HD and I have some questions related to the readers, I hope you can help. 1. My main problem is the pdf, is it possible to read the pdfs in a normal way (like reflow), just to set up a screen size and turning pages with tapping. Currently if I set wide screen I must scroll the pages and it is crazy. 2. What is the default eReader on the Aura HD? 3. Is it worth to install Coolreader or Koreader and which one for PDFs ? 4. If I want to install a new reader does it matter which firmware I have? Is this reader just an app, or I must overwrite the whole system ? 5. Can I set back the original reader and settings later? Thans in advance and cheers |

1. Kobo's PDF software does not do PDF reflow. However, if you tap the left or right edge in zoom mode (whether in portrait or landscape) you can turn the page.
2. Kobo uses two e-reader software packages. ACCESS for any content downloaded from Kobo & RMSDK for side-loaded e-pubs & PDFs. 3. Many people think so; I'm not one of them. For directions and discussions, check out this link. 4. As I understand it, the alternative reader software co-habits fairly nicely on the Kobo hardware, although I believe a reboot is needed to get back to the Kobo base software. See the link above. 5. See #4. |

Adding the alternative readers has no effect on the original readers. In fact the most common way to start the alternate readers is by selecting a launching PNG image file, in the same manner that you select books within the original software.
KOreader started as a project to provide an improved PDF reader for Kindles, the PDF rendering is done using "MuPDF" code. Try it out, I don't read that much PDF on my AuraHD so I can't talk about it's performance but some have said that it is much better than the one from Kobo. Luck; Ken KOreader does reflow, and it's features are always improving, so if there is something you found lacking check back at https://github.com/koreader/koreader and see if it is listed for merger into the next build. No reboot required for all the recent builds. While they try to have it working in all the eink Kobo eReaders, some of the earlier models, like the early Touch models, seem to have more issues than the newer devices like the AuraHD. An install guide. Last edited by Ken Maltby; 02-17-2014 at 03:29 PM. |
