I've noticed ever since my pw2 updated to the 5.4.2 and above firmware the battery is draining a lot faster. I assume this has to do with the devices constant connection to Amazon's servers for the Cloud Collections. It is bad enough the collections are practically unusable with the new CC feature, but now it also affects the battery significantly. Has anyone else noticed this or is this a defect of my device?

A rapidly draining battery is most commonly caused by something having become stuck while indexing. Have you checked to see whether anything is indexing?

Assuming nothing is stuck indexing, this is a problem that's been reported elsewhere by a number of people. One person on KBoards noted that it went away when she got rid of her Collections entirely. As many of us don't consider that practical, it's worth at least trying a reset.
And please let Amazon know. They can't correct a firmware issue if they aren't aware of it happening. |

A reset won't restart indexing. It just reboots the device. If the Kindle (or any other device, come to that) starts behaving oddly, rebooting it is always a good idea.

Are you leaving WiFi on? Try turning it off - WiFi uses a lot of power.

Try cutting down the number of eBooks and documents you store on the PW2. You may have exceeded its capacity.

Yes I have, unfortunately due to the fact I update collections regularly, usually every day or every few days. I am going to attempt to leave it off to see if this makes a difference, and use my android to update collections. |

I have the same problem: battery draining very quickly, updated firmware, nothing indexing, no wi-fi on, few ebooks on the kindle but, contrary to what i read on this forum, no annoying problem with collections and cloud.

My firmware is up to 5.4.2.1 and have no battery problems. If you have 5.4.2.0, maybe upgrade.

Or rather, downgrade via ixtab's 5.4.0 image, then you could leave WiFi off!
