Akutagawa, Ryunosuke: Rashomon & Other Stories, v.1, 25 April 2008.

Translated by Takashi Kojima Introduction by Howard Hibbett (Translation first published 1952) A collection of six masterpieces. ‘In a Grove’ tells the story of a murder from seven viewpoints, including that of the dead man.. Can one ever find the truth? The first two stories were the source for Akira Kurosawa’s film, Rashomon. Contents: In a Grove Rashomon Yam Gruel The Martyr Kesa and Morito The Dragon The source was Black Mask/Munseys, which had a number of formatting errors (which I have tried to correct). Thanks so much for this. However, and maybe it was so in the original material, there appears to be some content missing. In the first story, "In a Grove" (the primary basis for Kurosawa's Rashomon) at least the transition between the mother's tale and the account of the thief seems missing.
