Calibre Companion - sort by published date?

Sorry if I've missed something obvious but I can't find a way to sort books by the published date. If I've got a lot of books by one author, I'd like to have the option to view them in chronological order.

I've added pubdate to my groups but that just shows me all books that were published in particular year and I can find no way of using it as a sort criteria.

Sorry, but CC cannot sort by pubdate. Adding this would require changing CC's database layout, something I am loath to do unless there is a lot of demand.

That said, I might be changing the database anyway to add a "Read" checkbox that can be synced with a calibre yes/no column. If that happens, I will look at adding the publication date to the sortable fields.

I couldn't figure a way to sort my books by publication date either, even less so on my sony reader. I just went around it : I renamed every book with the date between brackets before the actual title, so any alphabetical sorting will be a date-sorting. it means you can't sort by actual title though, so you'd better have less than a hundred books or know the author's name...

The latest version of CC, out since 1 April, can sort by pub date.

For the Sony reader you can ask calibre to make a collection sorted however you want. The special collection name is abs (all by something). The collection you would use is abs:pubdate. See item 5 in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=113087 for more information.
