Shortcut for preferences
Kovid,
I have a question due to a discussion in a German forum. There came up a request how to enter into preferences if a user had deleted by mistake the icon from the tool bar. In the English version I can use the shortcut Ctrl+P by default for enter into the preferences. In the German version it is P w/o Ctrl what is in conflict to polish books. Is there a particular reason not to use Ctrl+P as in the English version and if there is none, can I ask for an update to Ctrl+P as default? I guess this is better as to have no shortcut for preferences in the German GUI. |

Yes, this is my work around.
However, I guess this is not an opinion for someone who is not familiar with hacking. ![]() |

You'd have to ask the person that maintains the german translation why it is P in German, I have nothing to do with it
![]() Feel free to contribute to the translations and change it back. |

Kovid, thanks for the hint.
I looked into the translation and have an additional question. How is that working with the default preferences for combinations with ctrl and shift? In the translation, I have only the ampersand. For this particular case in English it is assign to &Preferences and in German to &Einstellungen (what is in conflict to other shortcuts as well) Maybe a picture explains it better: The first one shows the shortcuts in an English GUI. The second shows it in the German GUI. The third picture shows the translation template in Launchpad. How can I get the default shortcut w/o doing a mistranslation? |

@ DoctorOhh,
Thanks for the explanation. You are right. I can see it on my system as well. The problem the user had was on a Mac-System. Maybe there is/was something different. |

On mac preferences are always accessible via the application menu (click calibre) in the global menubar. This is the "standrad" location for preferences in mac apps. They are also available via the mac standard shortcut of Cmd+,
@divingduck: The shortcuts are not defined by the ampersands. This is hte relevant translation in german. Someone seems to have translated Ctrl to Strg, causing the problem: https://translations.launchpad.net/c...earch=Ctrl%2BP |

Kovid, I did a short search on this issue. It seems that there are more of these kinds of translations. I understand why this happen. It is because the German keyboards have Strg instead of Ctrl. I will change them all.
Is there a way for me to generate/download an own translation file that I can use for testing on my system? |

Yes launchpad allows you to downlaod and upload translations as .po files. See here: http://calibre-ebook.com/get-involved for instructions on how to test a .po file with calibre.
