Thumbs down Moon Reader & Ivona Voice for HTC Windows phone?

Thu 2 Jan 2014, 4:45 pm

Hi All,

Hmmmm . . . I have absolutely no idea where to post this!

Right now I use Moon+ Reader Pro on my HTC Desire X, mostly for reading books with Text-to-Speech via Ivona (Amy) Voice. No complaints. However, I am thinking about migrating to the HTC Windows 8 phone (looks good!) as I would like to have better integration with my Windows pc. However, I won't even consider unless I can use Moon+ Reader (or something just as good), and especially Ivona Amy Voice.

I have spent the last hour spinning my wheels between HTC, Microsoft and Ivona sites . . . but no joy!

Anyone know if I can do this on the HTC Windows 8 phone?

Thanks!

Im sure win 8 has several ePub readers, but I went it the windows App Store and searched for Ivona and found nothing. Ivona.com shows nothing for windows phone, just regular windows and android.

Thanks, Betty! Me too.

I know that Windows phone has TTS capability, but I don't know how good it is, or if you can access it by opening a book in your book reader as you can with Moon+ Reader & Ivona. Actually, with Moon+ Reader, you can use any TTS such as Google or SVOX.

Possibly BAD news for Ivona fans. I just read that Ivona was acquired by Amazon for their Kindle Fire. Smart move, but will they continue to make it available for Android? Right now, Ivona Android is in time-limited beta, so if Amazon decides to hog the technology for Kindle, they need do nothing but not renew the beta and it will stop working on thousands (millions?) of phones.

Ivona really seems to be on to something that the other TTS guys are not. I sure hope Amazon does not squash the further development of such an important technology.

Perhaps this should be another thread.
