Library - default folder and filename structure
this evening I was thinking how calibre could be utilized as document management system add-on to compliment paperport by leveraging calibre rich search, tag features.
Is there a possibility to modify how the default library folder/filename are named when importing a pdf file into a library, similar to the flexibility of the save as template or use of custom composite columns in the naming of the file. Thanks! Laz. |

As DoctorOhh has indicated the directory and file structures are not configurable
Nominally they are '/library/author/title/title - author.format' Within the constraints of the host operating and file systems the usage of each level and names are user controlled. My Journals library has what I think of as 'Journal Name' (Foreign Policy, Granta etc) in the Author column and what I think of as 'Issue Label' (Year-Month, Issue #, Folio Reference etc) as the Title. The fact that calibre labels them something different is, for me at least, a minor annoyance. But I'm not sure how one would go about 'marrying' Calibre and Paperport Writing a Paperport PlugIn for Calibre would probably need access to a Paperport API, Writing a Calibre PlugIn for Paperport would require that Paperport supports plugins Does Paperport have a published API and/or does it support plugins BR Last edited by BetterRed; 12-26-2013 at 06:57 AM. |

'/library/author/title(id)/title - author.format'
The (id) part is a numeric counter, that is increased as you use calibre, and it is used by calibre to make the folders unique and to connect folder with a specific database entry. So it is possible to have the same book, with exactly the same title and author, without them overwriting each other. It is easy to make mistakes if you try to manually manipulate individual files and folders in the library. Typically the effect is that calibre no longer can find the files or formats. The database maintenance tools can sometimes fix that. Last edited by Adoby; 12-26-2013 at 09:47 AM. |

Thanks all for the quick responses. appreciate the answers. I going to explore the paperport API set to see if there are ways I can develop a plugin to automate the import process from paperport to calibre.
