Glo Issues after updating Kobo Glo?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty slack about updating software on my devices, but I plugged my Kobo Glo in the other night to charge via my computer and noticed there was an update. Decided to go ahead and update it even though I get lazy with these things...

Anyway, since the update it's been giving me a few strange issues.
To begin with it gives me grief connecting to wifi, I usually have to attempt a few times and restart the device before it will finally connect. Then verifying that it does indeed have an IP address, any search in the bookstore yields "0 results" no matter what I enter.

I'm sure I could purchase books through the desktop app, but I'm a bit worried about trying that as well, because when I sync my Glo (via cable, not wifi) it seems to be matching my Kobo to the desktop, rather than the other way around?
I'd lost progress on a new book I'd started to read; it went from 10% or so to unread status, and several books that I'd finished reading previously were also marked as unread. Basically reverted it back to when I'd last synced it.

Does anyone have any experience with anything like this or have any helpful suggestions? It's kind of frustrating me
