Well, entering US Amazon from outside the US I also got the offer. One day only though. I guess they are discontinuing them.

The one without Special Offers is still $89 in the US. And still £69 in the UK.

Offer, yes, but once you click inside, you get that "Live outside the US?" banner that takes you to the international Kindle page, where only the no-ads $89 Kindle is available.

I'm reasonably sure that even if you tried to put the $49 Kindle into your shopping cart, once you get to choosing delivery address, it won't allow you to buy it when the address is outside the US.

Excellent deal though for those who can get it - at such a price I'd be very tempted to get one for myself as backup or for summer outdoor / good ambient light use when I don't actually need the light of the Paperwhite.

ETA: Yes, it's US only. I get this message when trying to add it to cart: "Some of the items in your order cannot be shipped to the selected address."

Great point by Dr. Drib here in the Deals forum that you can get one without Special Offers for $69 in the U.S., by buying the one with Special Offers and then paying $20 to remove them.

Good price, although I gave my K4 away and got a Paperwhite because the touch screen is such a big deal for me - and I love the lit screen!

Still, it's wonderful for people who like a basic model, and it's a good 'entry model' for those who are wondering what the fuss is about

And the Nook Simple Touch is only $59. I think I'd probably want the touch screen enough that I'd get that if making a decision between the two.

This is tempting, since my K3 was stolen about a month ago. I loved the keyboard on that thing, too. Not sure if I will replace since I do more reading on my N7, but it was nice to take on trips since the battery life was so good.

The basic Kindle has been on offer at Amazon.de for 49€ (and some other European stores for 59€) for a while, no reduction on amazon.co.uk though. Some other UK shops were selling it for £49 but those deals have expired now.

Can they do that? I would imagine that a one common market would preclude them from limiting shipping.
