The should have been up 28 minutes ago.

www.timeanddate.com check out world clock, and use GMT/UTC (at the bottom of the page).

Considering that the worldwide servers are down, this suggests either that there is a major software upgrade in the works (form the Irish programmers?) or there was something horribly wrong.

The fact that the planned maintenance (which usually has a lot of fluff in the schedule) is going longer than expected suggests that it may be both of the above, or just the later one.

Last night, I was halfway through writing a post joking that Kobo would screw something up. And I deleted it, as I wanted to give Kobo a chance. And didn't want to be too negative.

Well, Kobo has screwed it up.

When searching for an author, the default view is now BestSeller, which means that the free, public domain books by authors you aren't interested in now sort at the top.

The rest of the sorts remain broken (they were broken before), although the date based sorts seem to actually sort, I just can't tell what the criteria is.

Kobo's new default sort is putting the free public domain books first on the screen. Maybe someone should clue Kobo in on how capitalism works.

In one instance, I had to go to the third press of the "show more books" button to get to the first non-free book. It shouldn't take that much effort to throw money at Kobo.

Well, did Kobos search function ever really work? I've purchased books in many online stores in Germany, Holland, France and US (Amazon).
And hardly ever experienced any problems with book searches. But finding a book on Kobos website is a challenge. When searching on complete/exact book title or full author name does not mean that these end up on top of the search results. When you use the same search string on, lets say Amazon, you'll get the wanted result or at least a decent or logical result when a book title or author name is very common.
To me, Kobos search results look too frequently to be shuffled in a more random order.

Did anybody else loose "save preview" button? I can't see it anymore when I am logged in and I was saving all previews before buying in order to check if the book is ePub...

I tried 4 books. Three had a save preview button, the other one didn't.

No, the sorting never worked. But they were consistent on the same site, and generally between sites. The default view would put the searched authors books first, in some random-seeming order.

Now, they are worse. The old, old, old public domain books that have nothing to do with the searched author are first in the list.

Edit: Yikes! I put searches in the first line, not sorting. I've found that the searches usually work, it's the sorting that don't seem to work.
