How to access kePub file on tablet?
I dont know if I am allowed to ask this here, or if I'm asking in the right place, so apologies if I am breaking rules.
I bought an ebook from Kobo only to discover after I had bought it that it would only download to a tablet, iOS or android platform. So I am assuming that means its a kePub file? I have managed to get it to show up in my Kobo app on my tablet, but I would like to add it to my Calibre on my laptop. I can read the book in the app, however when I connect my tablet to my laptop and look in the Kobo > ePubs folder, its empty (I have only ever bought this one book with this Kobo account). When I look in the Kobo folder on the tablet itself I can see what must be the file, and I can make a copy of it in a different area on my tablet but it still isnt visible on my laptop. I would really appreciate any help with this please, or even directions to the right place to ask if I shouldnt be asking here. Many thanks ![]() |

Thank you, but like I said, the book can only be downloaded onto a tablet, iOS or android device. It cannot be downloaded onto a PC. It will not sync with a desktop app on a PC. Believe me, I have tried.
I just tried to get a link for the book (The De-Text Book) so you can see what I mean by the available download options, but Kobo is offline for maintenance so I will have to try again later. |

It's not only that it is a kepub, but that it is one of the relatively small number of books that do not load on an ereader of any kind--including kobo readers. It is always a good idea to look to see what devices a book runs on. The books that are tablet/app only are often graphics or interactive intensive. Books that run on ereaders, but do not run on non-kobo ereaders usually do not show Blackberry, btw. That is because Kobo no longer has a a Blackberry app.
People have reported that they have gotten refunds from Kobo when this happens. |

I'd log on to the website, and see if the title is still in your library, under either the "Purchased" or "I'm Reading" categories. If it's only found in "Trash", you'll have to undelete it from there. If found only in "Purchased", open it up in the web for reading and browse a page or to. That makes it a title in the "I'm reading" category. Then, a sync from your Kobo desktop app should produce the title in your Kobo Desktop app library. Once a title is in your Kobo Desktop app library, you should be able to use the methods hinted at in the thread cited above. [Disclaimer: I was not aware that there are some titles that will not even sync to the Kobo desktop app, as suggested above. THAT's just stupid on Kobo's part.] |

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I have asked about this on another forum as well and going by all the replies received and my own attempts, there really doesnt seem to be any possible way to get the book off my tablet. My laptop simply cannot see the file, no matter where I move it to on my tablet or what I rename it. As far as my laptop is concerned the file just does not exist. And if I cant get it onto the laptop, then I cant do anything further to the file. Kudos to Kobo for managing to create a truly locked file. When I first bought it and realised it was only available for a tablet I did ask Kobo for a refund but they said no as they reckoned I had already read it. At that stage I hadnt even worked out how to get it onto my tablet so I most certainly had not read it at all but they wouldnt listen. ![]() *Update* I finally found a way to get it off my tablet and onto my laptop. I zipped the whole Kobo folder on my tablet and added it to Dropbox and then downloaded it to my laptop via Dropbox. However none of the files inside the folder are anything like a regular epub file and Calibre cant read any of them. I tried just importing the whole zip folder into Calibre and it did load it but there was nothing readable about it, it was all just random symbols and letters. And so my quest continues. I will not be defeated! Last edited by Chapter One; 12-16-2013 at 05:54 PM. |

55a20aea-2a0e-4aee-9dc3-1321360af1a6 do you have anything like that? That would be a kepub book (on the device, mine are in the directory .kobo\kepub) |
