using the touchscreen without the front cover.
Hi there,
I have a prs-650 that I thought I bricked a few years ago. It was in infinite restart and suffered from the memory corruption error which I repaired by removing all the books on it. Sadly I went ahead and opened it up and tried to resolder the power buton. Few years later I still have it but somehow lost the cover. I can't seem to get the prs touchscreen working again without the front cover. Does anybody have any idea where/how I should get going to get my prs back in use? ps. I know I am a nutcase |

Do you mean the actual shell of the reader itself, the front metal entire section of the reader?
If that's the case, I'd just check eBay for used 650s and buy a cheap one, even if broken, just to get the shell. I've seen dead 350s sold before for $5 each (blue ones from Europe sold for the color more than anything). Last edited by Ripplinger; 12-05-2013 at 09:47 PM. |

Thx for the reply!
I mean the front entire metal section of the ereader. Ill be off to ebay then ^^ on a sidenote... But why wouldn't it work without the front? Does the metal front have to be their for the IR-light of the touch screen to be seen? thx! |

I've taken my 350s apart, but I really didn't check whether they functioned without the front cover. I really don't see that it would make a difference though.
I posted images of the pieces in this thread, the last one being the front metal shell. It really doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but perhaps the bevel as you mentioned is needed for the IR. Does it turn on at all without the front piece on and it's just that you can't turn pages? Do the buttons work to turn pages? It's possible there's something else wrong with it. |

buttons work, but can't open any books without the touchscreen working.
If the touchscreen isn't working the prs 650 is bricked and I'd better buy a new one. ![]() So I will order a broken one to test unless I can know for sure that the touchscreen isn't working. In that case the prs 650 is dead. I realy hate to throw away electronics! ![]() Thx for your kind replies! |
