Greetings to all.

I have been an eBook enthusiast since long before they were available
(see http://www.jbryant.eu/pages/ebook.htm)
and have been using a Rocket REB1100 for a long time.

I have just bought a Cybook and decided to join this forum.

I live in southern England but travel all over the World (36 countries last year)
as an electronic engineer, and also to dive and view wildlife.

Hello James. Welcome! It appears that your reader requirements are similar to mine. I hadn't thought about having an alarm clock in the reader, but it's a great idea. I get "lost" in a story and lose track of time, so having an alarm that would go off and get my attention -- maybe even blanking the current screen -- when I have an appointment or other time-sensitive activity (preparing supper for the family?) that I need to take care of.

I did not actually mention "alarm" in the clock as this would involve

[A] Additional complication (which may well be a good idea and acceptable), and

[B] Keeping the Cybook at a higher power level (my proposal was that the time display only updated on page turns).

However, now I think about it, an actual alarm (blank or flash display - sound from sound port) would be very useful and the power overhead would probably be acceptable. (Time resolution of one minute means that the low power clock only needs to do something sixty times an hour, which is not very power hungry.) The critical issue is whether the processor actually contains a real-time clock already - adding one would be expensive.

James - the punctuality challenged

It certainly has an internal RTC that is kept up to date in order for the Library book expiry features to work.
