my paperwhite 2 pet peeves, opinions wanted
Just some initial impressions/suggestions (will avoid collections update disaster altogether):
1) does "go to" toc bother anyone else? seems like every chapter heading just fades off which is extremely annoying when trying to get to a topic in a technical book (ie, "chapter 5 migrating your windows infr..."). Seems like there has to be a way to either make the text smaller or make it pop when you press and hold...this really takes away in things like computer books, not so much for simple novel reading. 2) Collections display in cover view. Does anyone really need big rectangles that all look the same here? would it not make more sense to keep the covers of actual books showing as covers in covers view but keep the folders (collections) showing as small just like they do in list view even when in covers view? which leads to my next pet peeve. 3) why have the collections in list mode lined up on the left hand side of the screen? why not use all the screen real estate and use say three columns? Why should I have to go through 6 or 7 pages to find a collection when I could just as easily do it in 2 pages? 4) option to automatically turn off wifi after a user defined period. for example lets say I set this to an hour by default. So I browse the kindle store for 20 minutes and then forget to turn off wifi. at say 59 minutes I (if still reading) would get a message to the affect that "wifi will be disabled in 30 seconds, please click keep enabled to override this setting". This would let the user decide how long to keep wifi on by default and of course the feature could be totally disabled, or just overridden for that specific instance. would be a great battery saver in my opinion. I have other minor issues such as burying the airplane mode in settings but that is it for now. Thoughts greatly appreciated. |

Ah! Fat chance - generally speaking, letting the user decide anything is not Amazon's way
![]() Maybe the MR devs could see if it's possible to tweak something with the wifi. and magic a timeout option. Personally I treat my PW2 (and my other Kindles before that) as a strictly offline device, makes things less annoying. |

Re #3, not everyone's collection names would fit if they were 2 or 3 across.

1, I don't have an opinion on that because I only read fiction books. You mean you want all the text of the chapter heading there, even if its long? I guess a long press would be helpful for that.
2, I do agree that the collection covers could be a bit nicer. I think the PW2 got some upgrade on those, but that doesn't help me since I have a PW1. I would not want them smaller as otherwise my collection names wouldn't fit inside and smaller font I couldn't read. 3, Most of my collection names take up at least half of the screen. Many are 2/3rds over. I couldn't even fit 2 columns on my screen and again, I don't want smaller font on the main pages as I can't control the size of those and then I can't read it. 4, that's an interesting idea though having wifi turn off after a while. It could be a setting I suppose you can turn on and off and then it would turn off after 20 minutes or so automatically after each use. And I am with you with the airplane mode hidden. I still like the way it is on my older kindles. Just one menu button press and there it is. At least they put it inside the book menu now. Before I had to keep going out of the book and then open it up again, just to turn wifi on and off. But its still an extra step, I agree. |
