How to add leading zeros to the front of a series

I have looked and tried to figure out the language and just can't figure out everywhere to put "{series_index:0>3s}" to get what I want.

In save to device I put: {series_index:0>3s}
to get leading zeros. That works perfectly - I get xxx 01.00 on my Kindle.

Now, I want the leading zeros to also show up in my series on the series tab, such that I see xxxx [01] instead of xxx[1] when I enter the leading 0. I can't figure out where to put it in Preferences to make this happen. Any help would be most appreciated.

What is the "series tab"? If you mean something in calibre itself such as the tag browser or the book spreadsheet, then you can't make it show leading zeros without changing calibre's programming. If you mean something on your kindle, then you need to determine where it gets the series information to see if calibre can format it.

Sorry I wasn't clear - I mean on the Calibre column titled "series". I can't tell if I've added the leading 0 until it gets to the Kindle, then if I didn't add it, I have to go back to calibre, add it, and then retransfer the book. It appears correctly on the Kindle.

If I can't get it to show on the Calibre column, I'll just have to continue as I have been, but it does seem a lot of trouble when I would like to just look at the column and know - especially older books that have been added to Calibre a really long time ago. Appreciate your reply.

No you cannot change the Calibre display. Calibre does not store leading zeroes on the series number as internally it is stored as a floating point number )which means leading zeroes are effectively discarded). You therefore have to add them (it wanted) at the point a book is exported from Calibre.

Thanks, I appreciate your answering. Now, at least I won't continue to try to figure out how to do it.
