Cannot find books

Something has happened with Calibre -- when I type in a book name in the search it does not pull up the book. All the books are still shown!!! What have I done?

Maybe you have accidentally set it to highlight on search, rather than filter?

A lot of people seem to have been confused about this, so in the latest update, that setting was moved over to Preferences ==> Searching, uncheck "highlight search results instead of restricting the book list to the results"

Before calibre 1.11 this button would toggle it on and off:

EDIT: On Windows the setting will say this: "Show a quick toggle button to switch between highlighting and restricting results next to the searchbar"

Note: As of Calibre 1.11, that icon is no longer there (because of the problem you and thousands of others had)

In calibre 1.11 the Preferences > Searching dialogue box includes an option to:

Show a quick toggle button ... etc

which reinstates the missing button.

I noticed on another thread that this option is actually different on Windows than linux. I haven't actually used Windows in a few months so far.
