How many books do you read a year?
Mainly because I am curious. I know that people on this site read more then the average bear (or monkey, chucken, mouse, dog, cat, naked mole rat) but how much more?
Think of your average year, I know we have some down years, but on average... Last edited by ProfCrash; 11-07-2013 at 09:25 AM. |

The average monkey prefers audiobooks, so my "reading" is mostly confined to short stories. Still, I manage one or two novels a month on my Kindle.

Typically two or three per week, unless there's a particularly large tome in the mix. I'll do about 300-350 pages per evening, taking advantage of quiet time when my hubby works nights, as he must all too often!

So far this year, I've read 34 books, but I think I'll end up in the 37-48 book range.

Oh, I counted my audiobooks in this list as well. I will fall in 13-24 cateogry if I remove the audiobooks.

Usually read one book per week.
Exception: When we're out of town visiting the younger grandchildren, my wife and I read about 10 "books" a day to the kids. G-kids range from 9 months to high school seniors and they all love books! The youngest thinks they taste pretty good too. |

I estimated 25 - 36 but I don't really keep track. It all depends on how much life gets in the way of reading.
BTW ProfCrash, I know you've got a young one so I can heartily recommend "Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed" by Mo Willems if you don't have it already. |

Usually just over 60, which is why I put 61. This year I've read around 110 so far, which as far as I can recall, given this is the first year I have kept track, is my best ever.

37-48 is about the right yearly average for me. I don't think I've ever managed 60 and 50 is a big stretch. Though, I'm on my 42nd book this year, so you never know. I might get to 50 this year.

I put myself in the 37-48 books. I have years I am in the 60 or more and years, like this one, were I am well below that. With the little man running around, I have a feeling it is going to be a while before I see the 60 plus again. Maybe when he hits high school and I am re-reading classics so I can help him with school work and drive him nuts discussing his reading list. Last edited by ProfCrash; 11-07-2013 at 10:41 AM. |

You may find it useful to look at the "reading challenge" threads in the "Reading Recommendations" forum. There's extensive discussion there about how many books people read in a year.

Yes but I am lazy and many people do not read that thread. So this deals with my lack of motivation to dig through and read something else and lets folks who know nothing about said thread participate.

I was merely suggesting it as a potential source of additional data for your question
