Metaread, or To read about reading

Reading and books are so attractive that a book with reading persons or books on a shelf catches me up.

To make me read a book starts with someone getting home and finding John reading, or Rita reading a magazine, or the cat over a book on the sofa. Even a newspaper exerts the same effect, and if someone is reading a Kindle, like in Mr. Penumbra, well, I simply can't get over the temptation of metareading.

Do you feel something about?

Not something I have thought about. Makes me think of Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey in Black Books for some strange reason.

Lol. I was just thinking the same thing.

I don't ever remember being pulled into the description of someone else reading, other than maybe some curiosity about what they were reading.

I think I'm drawn to stories where people handle books more than the reading of them. (Librarians, archivists, historians...) Although, the pull there isn't strong enough to actually seek those kind of stories out. But I do enjoy running across them.

I have noticed I feel the same about a cup of coffee, especially if the cup is of a white porcelain.

Seems that I only like to see my life reproduced. (But, hey, that does not explain why I read Bukowsky.)
