I am curious, what is the maximum number of books you keep on your PW2 before you start noticing a lag in the responsiveness of the device??
So far, I have 388 books on my PW but I do not see any lag. |

The number of books doesn't affect the responsiveness of the device. Having a large number of books will slow down the speed of things like doing a global search, but it has no impact whatsoever on the normal use of the device for reading a book.
I currently have a little under 800 books on my PW2, and it's about 75% full. Last edited by HarryT; 11-01-2013 at 11:53 AM. |

Wouldn't the number of books effect the indexing functions that any database needs to do. The Paper white needs to keep an index of all the books in order to provide the list of books that are on the kindle and I would think that would get longer and longer when you add books to the kindle. However I can understand that it does not effect the book access speed.

I would always recommend adding books to the PW in small batches (no more than 20 at a time) and letting one batch finish indexing before adding the next. Last edited by HarryT; 11-01-2013 at 11:55 AM. |

Adding books in small batches isn't necessarily anything to do with any problems your Kindle might have indexing a large amount. It's to do with the drain it puts on the battery, and more importantly, if for whatever reason there is an issue with a book and your Kindle either gets stuck indexing it (and therefore keeps draining the battery) or starts freezing up, it's easy to go back and find which book is causing the problem if you've only added a small number at a time.

Thanks for your answers guys, guess I am going to have to test putting more books on my pw. I didn't have this problem with my pw1, but that might have been due to keeping the count under 300, I had this problem with my k2. I know in theory you should do small batches but I am too lazy and too impatient for that. I usually dump them all on there and let it index overnight. Luckily I've never had it choke on a book.

Sorry, Nyn, but I don't understand why you are expecting to have a problem? Why do you think that putting a lot of books on the PW is going to make it slow?

I like to jump through series when reading so I like to have a lot on my device to choose from. Not to mention I do not like to have all that empty space, ideally I like to keep 2/3's of the device full. |
