Mayday Use for first time.

I was reading an eBook on my HDX and could not figure out how to set up text to speech and have it turn off when I wanted to go to sleep.

I then did a down sweep and tapped Help. I then tapped Connect to Mayday. A 1.5" x 1.5" picture appeared with a live technician at the other end. He was able to make lines on my HDX 2013, operate functions and show me how to implement them.

This was FANTASTIC. I got connected in 10 seconds.

Anyway, the answer was to tap about tap about 1" from the bottom of the screen. There is an arrow there to start text to speech. One can turn it off by tapping the double bar.

To set the Quiet Time, go to Settings / Notifications and Quiet Time. Then tap Quiet Time at the top and then turn on a schedule at the bottom for when Quiet Time starts and ends.

I'm still not sure if the book keeps moving pages quietly. I'll have to now go back to Mayday to find out

Nothing beats this help mechanism for any other eReaders.

Edit: I called back my HDX technician and he told me the pages stop turning when the Quiet Time kicks in. This Mayday help is really great. By they way, for what its worth these two technicians were American, and not Indian - not that It matters as long as they know what they are doing.

I don't see myself needing MD feature because I would stump those poor people. I'm too much a techy to ask for help. Only when I know it's broke do I call for help! It's great for no tech people though.

The Mayday Tech told me to use Quiet Time to shut down text to speech on a schedule. It doesn't work. Quiet Time only mutes notification alerts. A sleep timer is only available for Audio Books.

Mayday never did alert me on how to download other voices for Text to Speech. I found that myself and downloaded the male voice. That one pauses at the end of sentences and paragraphs. The female voice goes on in a steady pattern without any pauses losing my concentration. I switched to the male voice.

Mayday had told me it only works in a few, specific eBooks - not all. They were wrong. I tested over 5 eBooks and it worked in everyone exactly the same. It is activated where the fonts can be chosen.

I'm not surprised on that! I've had several clueless Service Repts from Amazon.

I wish there way a way to stop an Audible from downloading on their corresponding books! It should ask your permission!

I don't have that problem. There may be a setting to control it. Tap Help and Mayday. MAYBE they can solve it.

I don't get the whole Mayday marketing campaign blitz on TV! It is almost like saying to your prospective customers that your product is so bad and/or so complicated that we had to build in an immediate and direct hot line to our CS. It is the tech gadget equivalent to the medic alert systems. Seems like they would have been smarter to not focus on Mayday in the TV ads, and instead just place a Getting Started blurb about Mayday in the box that could be seen as soon as you open it. The Fire is a fairly good tablet after all.

Now for Android, Google really does need a Mayday feature. I would have been calling those idiots a dozen times yesterday asking where settings were hidden! Wow, I left the Android ecosysyem for 6 months and I've already forgotten most of what I learned! I must say that 4.3 is a lot better than 2.2.3 or whatever I had on my Motocrap phone, but it is still way more complicated than it should be.

Mayday allowed me to get a request in for a Sleep Timer for Text to Speech use and Music use.

I called them on my HDX 2013. They searched my settings for that feature and then agreed to try and get it into the Nov, 2013, major firmware patch.

I agree with May Day being clueless. Mine didn't know where Help was which is in apps by the way. I wasn't about to help the Kid.
