Best Tablet eReader App?
I know that this has probably been discussed many times before, but what is the most current and favorite eReader App for reading a book on a tablet? I have seen and looked at many.. but I would like your opinions and feedback..

On iOS Marvin has finally ended my lament of the demise of Stanza. I like the iBooks app with its "looks like you are reading a book"...but it has nothing like the configuration options of Marvin.
Kindle reader for those times I'm too lazy to liberate my kindle books. GoodReader for PDFs Lee |

I like Moon+ Reader. http://www.moondownload.com/
Firstly, because it handles: txt, html, epub, pdf, mobi, umd, fb2, chm, cbr, cbz, rar, zip or OPDS - which means I don't have to convert books after I strip the DRM. Secondly, because it allows me a great degree of fine control over how the book appears - from fonts to font size to background to etc. I never use the native Nook, Kindle or Kobo readers simply because they only have a limited number of font sizes, and the larger increments after the mid-size font are just too drastic. I need slightly larger than the mid-size font, not top-line eye-chart large. They also usually just give you a choice of white, sepia or black backgrounds. I prefer a faint green color, it's easier on my eyes. Forgot to add, it also lets me access ebooks I've got stored on my NOOK HD's external SD card. Last edited by Xanthe; 10-21-2013 at 09:06 PM. |

Marvin on iPad and for Android either Moon+ Pro or Mantano combined with Calibre Companion. Not sure what's out there for Windows tabs.

Most ebooks in your Kindle, Kobo and Nook accounts will have DRM-protection. If so, you have to use the registered proprietary app (Kindle, Kobo or Nook) for each of them. You can't import them into Moon+ or any other third party reading app unless you strip the DRM.

My vote is for Fbreader, especially since the 2.0 Beta adds .PDF support.
Works with Colordict dictionary and text to speech, has a nice clean interface, scans the sdcard automatically so you don't need to import or add books, loads the last opened book and page when relaunched, good control over fonts and appearance, plus it is a nice small app that doesn't demand a lot of resources - so it runs just fine with the CPU under-clocked (from 1Ghz to 166 mhz). I've tried Moon+, Coolreader, Aldiko, and several others, but keep coming back to plain old Fbreader. |

I use Mantano premium which I rate very highly for epubs and pdfs but I also use Fabrik Pro which is a lot simpler and lets you keep your books on dropbox it's other advantage is it works with .mobi
I wish Mantano worked with dropbox it would be perfect it's current cloud subscription service just didn't work out for me at all but in every other respect it's excellent. |

Does anyone actually use a Windows device? I know, I know, they are horrible pieces of garbage and total UI fails to boot, but I have a friend who didn't realize and let the T-Mobile clerk con him into getting a Nokia.
I need to know what is the best eReader app for him? |

Mantano! I've been using it since the beginning. It does everything a reader app should. I do subscribe to their Cloud service which is awesome!
![]() I've tried Moon+, Cool Reader, Aldiko, FBReader and a few others and Mantano is the one one that reads external style sheets correctly and still allows you to customize your reading view. It has collections and you can sort by tags, series, author, title....etc It's well worth the price to buy the full Premium version. Mantano is the only reader app that has crop for PDFs which is great when you are trying to read one. I use Mantano with my Dropbox app. I export the books to my epub folder on my device from Dropbox then import them through the app and sort into collections. It's more than a ereader app it's like having a whole shiny new eReader! I use mine on my new Kindle Fire HDX which equals bliss! ![]() It also supports custom fonts just not custom bold or italic text that shows in the default font still. It is the only issue I have with it. I think Cool Reader is the only one that does allow for italic and bold custom fonts. |
