Paperwhite Replacement

I asked for a replace because of the dust problem under my screen. I received the replacement today and no dust but the screen was really yellow tinted. I contacted amazon what they would say and got "It must have been damaged during shipping". Then i was connected to a Kindle Specialist team and they had to say "First of all, please be assured that this is completely normal, The screen on the new Kindle Paperwhite device has been modified to reduce the unevenness on your Kindle device". Though i would share...

Call back again and talk to another CS rep. They should replace it without giving you a run around. You probably just got one of the few bad CS reps.

The PW2 screen is pale yellow - at least mine is. I really don't think it's a fault.

I prefer it to the grey of the PW1 - it's a similar tint to the paper of the typical paperback book. Interestingly, though, the yellow tint is only obvious in daylight; at night with the PW's light on, it disappears.

I didn't mind the yellow tint, but a nice creamy yellow even tint would be nice, neither of mine had that that's why they both went back.

It's one of the reasons I won't get one in a store as by the time you open the box and see what you have it's too late to return it unless you can convince the store it's faulty.

I saw a beautiful demo model but they wouldn't sell it to me.

Mine's a spot-on pleasant creamy tint without being overly yellow but I guess that Amazon has quite a wide manufacturing tolerance for the screens (again, unfortunately)

I wish there was a way to see a few models and then pick the one you think is best. The current process of 'let's just wait and see what I get' is rubbish.

I am still tempted to buy both the Kobo Aura and the PW and see if first of all I get a good example of both (or at least one) and then decide which one I'd prefer to keep. It does seem a bit of a lottery though and that's a little off-putting.
