All books have disappeared from my Kobo account

Interesting. When I logged in to my Kobo account today I noticed that all my books disappeared from the library. And I'm not happy at all about it.

Has this happened to other Kobo users too and does it happen frequently?
Or did they just f**ked up their website? (If so, it doesn't surprise me.)

I've sent Kobo an email about it... just wait and see...

this is dreadful! Sorry to hear that, have you tried with the chat? Here is the link:

In my experience this is generally quicker than email (incidentally, no this has thankfully never happened to me).

Anak, which Kobo site did you log into?

The Kobo Desktop or kobobooks.com ?

If it was Kobo Desktop did you have your ereader plugged in at the time?

Edit

Another thought, if it was kobobooks.com that you logged into - what browser were you using? Try another browser and see it's still like it.

I wonder if Adobe's response to being hacked has anything to do with it?

Very unlikely. There isn't a direct link between your Kobo account and your Adobe unless you use the same email address in both places.

An interesting coincidence then? Question, you change your email address all the time? Your Internet Provider has no problem with that? Why wouldn't people be using the same (their own) email address, "in both places"?

I don't know about you but I rarely change my email addresses. As for using the same email address for Kobo and Adobe, I suspect the issue would not be using the same email address but rather those who re-use the same password for multiple sites. That seems to both unsafe and popular.

David

Well, some people do change, others just get multiple accounts. It also depends on how long you've been using e-mail. For example, when I first got an e-mail account hotmail was the most popular and easy to get for free but then because it was so popular it became very susceptible to spam. There are five e-mails that I use regularly (I have more since I got specific ones for specific jobs in order to avoid clutter). The hotmail I honestly use as my SPAM address (the one I use to register anywhere where I fear I will likely receive spam as a result). Two others I have because I was able to get the name I wanted on them and one of them is from godaddy so as long as the domain is ours it is reliable in that it most likely won't disappear despite its small capacity. The other two I have because they are relatively reliable in spite of not being the exact names I would have liked and they have large capacities. Plus for Android you really should have a gmail address.

Also, I do tend to use the same password or variants of the same one on many sites. But not the important ones. For example if someone hijacked my mobileread account it wouldn't honestly be a big deal (no offense). While if someone hijacked my bank account, kobo account, paypal or any of those then it would be a big deal and that's why they have much safer and unique passwords. Facebook... I don't really use it but I would care since it has my real identity and as such my name could be besmirched by a hijacking.

Oh, may I suggest that in order to avoid future panic attacks you backup your books by downloading the epubs, maybe deDRMing them with calibre?
