DOCX file conversion in Calibre

With my Kindle 3 the pain in life has been PDF files. I have tried everything including conversion through Mobi editor. I had Adobe Acrobat V.6 but this will not work under Windows 7. I then discovered through a blog that Adobe were sometimes offering later versions of Acrobat (but not the latest) as freeware. I managed to obtain Acrobat 8 on this basis from Techspot.

I am converting PDF files via Adobe Acrobat to DOCX files, uploading to Calibre and then converting them to MOBI.

However, I now find that when I try to convert to MOBI an error comes up:
"'Type Error: 'object does not support indexing'"

Can anyone suggest a solution. Tried it two different books - same result.

Hi Kovid,
I will look into providing the details.

I am assuming that Calibre would not try to convert a DRM'd pdf and advise immediately?
I hope this is the case as I don't think the file I am trying to convert (.docx) is to the best of my knowledge.

Kovid made no comments to you about DRM, what you are seeing is his forum signature that is at the end of every post he writes.

Everything below the line on anyone's post is their signature.
