The Naval Chronicle

Fans of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey & Maturin series have probably heard of The Naval Chronicle.

Wikipedia quote:
Quote:
The Naval Chronicle was a British periodical published monthly between January, 1799 and December, 1818 (Huntington). It contained information about the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, including biographies, histories, news, and essays on nautical subjects, as well as poems and ballads on a variety of related topics (Jeffery).
The books are referenced throughout the books and Mr. O'Brian used them for research.

There is a trove of them available on archive.org in PDF, epub and mobi (the last two as poor as you would expect from converted scanned PDFs).

The Digital Book Index has a listing of the Chronicles along with some very interesting looking early British Navy documents.
