KEPUB problems: Books won't load more than once

Hello all --

Recently converted some EPUBs to KEPUBs via Calibre -- KEPUB Output plugin.

They open fine on the Aura HD, but if I go back to the home screen and then try to reopen the book, it hangs. White screen, save for the header (book title) and the text "Loading Introduction -- Page 7" on the bottom. Touching the screen does nothing -- I have to reboot the device.

I've seen this behavior on 2 books (funny, both hang on the Introduction chapters), but on books where it doesn't load a chapter name, it seems to work OK.

Also -- a more minor issue -- images in the book have been resized, even though I set the profile to tablet.

Would love to take advantage of KEPUB extras. Any idea why this is happening?

Cheers!

It happened to me once when I wasn't using the last version of the plugin.
What version of calibre are you running? And for the plugin?

(When I disabled Kobo TouchExtended, I couldn't send Kepubs to my Aura, which is why I reenabled it.)

Maybe you can try with only the Kobo TouchExtended plugin, the output one being disabled. This is what I do since the only place where I need a kepub is my ereader.

Note that I'm not techie by any means, so I can only try to give you a tip so you can read. Someone more knowledgeable will come with more help

Tried that. No difference.

Really quite desperate -- cannot understand why this is happening.

Thought I might also add that all EPUB to KEPUB converted books are appearing much smaller on the Aura. What I mean is -- the font size by default is much much smaller -- the settings I standardly use on EPUBs (font size, spacing, etc.) are on KEPUBs impossible to use -- I have to raise the font size slider majorly to get the book to legible size.

However -- this doesn't bother me so much. That I can't reopen books is killing me!

After disabling the Output plugin, did you try to delete one of the epub you want to send to your ereader? That way the conversion will fully use the touchextended plugin.

When I started reading the description, it sounded like the problem with embedded fonts and kepubs. When that happens, tapping the screen to bring up the menu and then dismissing it usually works to fix things. Just in case it is a different form of the same bug, make sure the font is set to something other than "Document default" and see what happens.

David -- The problem is, tapping anywhere on the screen didn't do anything. It was simply frozen.

One of the 2 books in question did indeed have an embedded font.

I have removed Kepub Output from Calibre, and am only using Kobo Touch Extended. The book with the embedded fonts now seems to work, but I have changed the font to something other than the default.

I've had this happen a few times. Always after I've had WiFi turned on, a few times to sync and once to use the browser. No idea what's up, but those are the only times it's happened to me. For me rebooting got the device working again, but not the specific book. To fix things there I had to delete and reload the book.

But have you removed the kepub files created by the output plugin?
One of your books seems to work now, so yay to you!

The smaller font is more or less normal. That was why I added font-size: 150% to the custom kepub css -- see the Developer's Forum Loading a custom CSS on kepub opening thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=218814 for more information.

For me, that 150% kept the kepub and epub font sizes close enough that I wasn't having to use the font size slider when switching.

David

I was wrong. I thought it was somehow WiFi related because that's the only time it had happened, but it just happened to me now & I haven't had wireless on. I did re-open the book from the home screen tile, but don't know if that makes a difference (can't remember on the others, but they were probably re-opened the same way), but once the book has this problem the only way I can get it to work is to delete & re-load.

Currently running (but it's happened with other versions earlier)...
Running Calibre 1.4.0

Brilliant! Thanks.

This should be added to a FAQ or something.

I've looked at that thread, but what I don't see: where do you enter that css information? In which of the options? The conversion options?
