Calibre library on USB pen and android tablet issue
Hi to all!
I've my calibre library on an usb pen which contains also the portable windows executable of calibre which permits me to access the library when I'm at work. When I'm on my linux pc, I use the calibre software installed on my pc to access to the same library with no issues (I've created a small plugin which has upperized all the file names so that to not have issues with the different OSes). Since some weeks I've a new android tablet with an usb port in which I can insert my pendrive so that to access to the same library when I want to read something using my tablet. The problem is that there appears not to be any app which can access a locally saved calibre library. How can I access my library which is in the USB pen in android? Any idea? I'm thinking to export the .bib from calibre and to use ito access the books from the android apps which use such format to store library info, but I would prefer to have something which avoid me to maintain such a .bib file update with the calibre library. Combine CC with the Reading List plugin which allows auto sync of books upon connecting my device to calibre and the SmartEject plugin which will tell me what books are in my library that are not on my device and it is very easy to keep my Android tablet in sync with the library on my computer. |

I would prefer to use an android version of calibre, but since it is at the moment not available I've found a way which in part solves my problem.
I create with calibre a .bib file of the archive, I transform the paths from absolute to relative and so I can access the catalogue using a bibtex android app. There are some issues with this approach: 1) I've to periodically update the .bib file 2) I've to manually transform the paths to relative ones (maybe paths should be relative by default) 3) I've to tell calibre not to export comments because most of them (downloaded from the internet when I've used the ISBN metadata search function) are rich of html and special characters which transform the generated .bib file in an unusable one. The first two issues are easily managed with minimal manual intervention, but the last one should require a function (maybe a plugin) which transform all the comments in the the library in plain test removing in a smart way all the characters which may create issues in the .bib file. Do you know if there is something I can use to do that (I've already developed a plugin which scan all my library, but I don't know how to check the correctness of the comment data). Thank you, Xwang |
