Looking for a good suspense novel recommendation
I typically only read non-fiction, but recently have gotten an urge to switch it up and read something fiction, preferably suspenseful. I've been out of the fiction game for a really long time now (like 10+ years), so there should be a lot of options out there.
I did give a few novels a try that people had recommended to me, but nothing really grabbed me to the point that I even wanted to finish it. I tried Vince Flynn (Term Limits) - thought the writing (particularly the dialog) was very amateurish. Then I tried David Baldacci (The Innocent), and while the writing was much better than that of Flynn, it just didn't grab me. Now I'm giving James Hankins (Brothers & Bones) a try, but it's kind of the same thing - just not drawing me in. I want a real page-turner that I won't want to put down. I thought about maybe trying the Stieg Larsson trilogy, but I did already see the movie of the first one and don't think I would enjoy the book as much because of that. |

Have no idea if it'll be to your tastes, but I loved both Mystic River and Shatter Island by Dennis Lehane.

That is definitely something that would play to my tastes, but I've seen both of those movies so I'm not sure if it would hinder my enjoyment of the books.

Bummer. The books were so much better, especially Mystic River.
He has a PI/mystery series...first one is A Drink Before the War. I remember liking them, but it's been years and they didn't stick with me like Mystic River did. |

For a classic suspenseful novel try And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. And it's free here on MobileRead in the Patricia Clark Memorial Library.

I recommend Linwood Barclay: No Time for Goodbye, Too Close to Home, Fear the Worst, Never Look Away, The Accident, Trust Your Eyes, and A Tap on the Window (haven't read this last one yet).
I especially liked Trust Your Eyes. |
