For what it's worth, I work for an American company and the style sheet provided to all freelancers requests it to be written okay.
But that might be something specific to their handling of the files.

It's slang, I believe either are OK. "OK" is fewer keystrokes and gets the same meaning across. It thereby improves the writer's productivity and in my opinion should always be used unless there is a strong artistic reason, or you are getting paid by the keystroke.

Well it seems to be in AMERICAN English Okay is more accepted, so I guess that is what I will use.

For American usage, the "bible" today is Garner's Modern American Usage. Professional editors rely on its guidance and Bryan Garner is affiliated with many of the leading language resources, including the Chicago Manual of Style.

Garner's Modern American Usage (3rd ed. 2009) states (p. 588):

Quote:
okay; OK; O.K. Each of these is okay. Although OK predominates in highly informal contexts, okay has an advantage in edited English: it more easily lends itself to cognate forms such as okays, okayer, okaying, and okayed.
Bottom line is either is acceptable although one will predominate based on context.
