Bug: ebooks lost & need to re-download
Each time I connect my Kobo Aura HD to my computer, I lose the books I bought online (on fnac.com).
They appear with an empty icon in my list, and the only way to read them again is to synchronize my Kobo. They are downloaded again and then I can continue my reading (the strange thing is my current page is not lost after they are re-downloaded...) |

What are you doing on the PC? Running the Kobo desktop application, calibre or manually sideloading books? The latter two shouldn't affect the books unless you do something. The Kobo application can sync or remove the books purchased from Kobo.
You are not losing the reading position as this is synced to the Kobo server for kepubs purchased from them. When you sync the books again, the reading status is also sync. |

on the PC I directly access the files on the Kobo (using Windows Explorer). For example, I just copy an ebook file, I plug out the Kobo, it displays the screen "loading books", and then my purchased books are lost...

Is the book you sideloaded shown on the device? What happens if you power off and restart the device?
With the symptoms, I would suspect a corrupt database on the device. The fix for this is to logoff on the device. This will restart the device, replace the database with a new one and get you to login again. Then it will redownload the books. And hopefully the problem is fixed. |

All that is consistent with a corrupt database on the device. While it was running it was working on an in memory copy. The power off forced a write to disk which probably failed and didn't store the book info. The power-on attempted to read the database which didn't contain any useful information. The logoff replaced the database with a new empty one which fixed things.
