Failure to add metadata when on adding books

Dear all,

I am using Calibre latest version (1.0.0) on Linux 64 bit. I have a 4k big library and trying to add more books. I add the books by "one book per sub-directory", as I am adding them from another calibre library copy (so there are metadata.opf files for each book).

When adding larger numbers (100 and more), I quite often get the problem that a significant number (30-50%) of the books are inserted without any metadata and author and title are both set to "Unknown". The accompanying error message is e.g.

Code:
Wuthering Heights - Emily Jane Bronte.mobi
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/add.py", line 171, in add
File "site-packages/calibre/ebooks/metadata/opf2.py", line 547, in __init__
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'/tmp/calibre_1.0.0_tmp_iOXa_c/lk_Gat_rm_worker/97.opf'
Based on another post, I checked that I have sufficient memory and storage. However I have 8 GB of RAM (with half unused) and several GB of storage in / (where /tmp and /var both reside).

Adding any of the affected books again (even in bulk) works fine. So it's not the books. I also notice that the books that fail to import properly are usually - when sorted alphabetically - at the beginning of the import list.

P.S.: Import is also terribly slow. It takes many minutes to add one 100 books. I've minimized the tag view and the book detail view.

First of all if you are copying from one libray to another use the copy to library feature, not add books.

Secondly that error message indicates some temp files used by the add books process are being deleted, why that may be, I have no idea.

Unfortunately I only have the directories, but not the library database.

Yes, I figured as much. However I have absolutely no idea why. There is only one Calibre instance running and I am not doing anything in /tmp (and afaik neither is anything else).

Try giving calibre its own 'temp' folder see http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cust...ment-variables
