Does my Calibre Automatically Update?
Its a little confusing to me that Calibre says in red, "Update Found: 0.9.44" This kinda implies that you need to update to the newly found update. Windows finds updates all the time but leaves it to you to apply the updates. I don't want to manually update. But it would be better if it said Last Version: or Recent Update:
When i click on it, it says "Calibre has been updated to version 0.9.44. See new features." But below that it says, "Get Update" with a button. Its a bit confusing. I'm assuming my Calibre has the lastest update. I tried to find a button that would tell me in the top menu but I didn't see any. Thanks! |

No - there is no automatic update. It is up to you to decide if you want to take any particular update. You can tell what version you are running by looking at the bottom left of the main calibre window.
Many people only take the occasional update. You can also switch of the update notifications under Preferences->Interface->Behavior if you do not want to see them. |

Calibre doesn't update automatically. You have to download and install the new version. No need to uninstall first.
But usually there is no need to install the newest version every week either, if you are happy with what you got. If you encounter any problems or want to ask for help, then update first to see if that fixes your problem. Edit: itimpi was faster... |

And there is Logic behind the No Auto Update.
Not all later versions work with certain Hardware or (older) Reader devices. Besides, you get to decide If or When to download a Big file. How many time have started your computer in a rush, to have it "Please wait while 'x' updates" ![]() |

Thanks guys. So why does it say "Calibre has been updated to version 0.9.44. See new features?"
All this time i thought my Calibre was updating. I've been using it for years. lol So i just double click the MSI file that downloads and it will install and I'll be ok after that? Last edited by maurices5000; 08-17-2013 at 02:54 PM. |

It means that Kovid has released a new updated version of calibre, and it is available for download. And that you can check the features to see if you will benefit from the upgrade.
The calibre that Kovid is talking about in the message is the new one that he is offering for download, not the one that is installed on your computer. The reason that you get this message is because the version of calibre you are running isn't the latest version, and you haven't turned off the notification about new versions. No, at least not the "official plugins". Sometimes the plugins need to be upgraded. Not always. It depends on what changed in calibre.
The plugins are upgraded from inside calibre, at least the official plugins. |
