Can't set Calibre as default for epub
Windows 7 SP1 64. Calibre 0.9.34 64 bit.
At some point in updating Calibre I lost the ability to set Calibre as the default app to open epub format books. When I attempt to open an epub the only program shown is Adobe. When I browse and select Calibre and click ok nothing happens. So, the only way to get these books into calibre is to drag and drop. Any ideas on how to fix this? That will add it to the list. Note, this is to VIEW a book. IMHO you should use a different (better) method to deliberately Add books to the Library. a) set up an auto-add folder b) drag and drop (onto the Calibre Icon or Calibre if open) c) Use the Calabre Add menu item |

If you previously had 32 bit calibre installed and set as the default viewer, there have been various posts and threads on this issue. Try a search in these forums on registry.
For instance see this: Quote:

I fixed this problem by editing my registry. I was going to use a registry cleaner but decided against it after reading a "HowtoGeek" article advising against them.
- I hit the Windows button and typed in "Run". - In the "Run" program, I typed "regedit" - In the Registry Editor, I clicked on "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" - I scrolled down to "Applications" and clicked on it. - From there, I opened the drop-down menus "ebook-viewer.exe", then "shell", then "open", then "command" - I then clicked on (Default) under "Name" in the main window. - I then clicked on the "Edit" menu and then clicked "Modify" - I edited the path so that it matched the current location of the program (In my case, I changed it from ""C:\Program Files (64)\Calibre2\ebook-viewer.exe" "%1"" to ""C:\Program Files\Calibre2\ebook-viewer.exe" "%1"" - The e-book viewer became available for me to set as a default program. Hope this helps! |
