Thumbs down Crash and Restore

Last night my Aura decided to crash. I tried to boot it up, and it went immediately to a screen which I believe said "Restoring." After several minutes, it instructed me to plug it back into my laptop, and I had to go through the ENTIRE setup process again. I had to reload my books and I lost all of my reading stats.

Has this happened to anyone? It's running Software Version 2.6.1, which I'm sure I'd upgraded to a while ago.

I'm seriously miffed, and I'm hoping that this is not indicative of more device problems to come. I already had to have my Aura replaced and it took almost two months due to Kobo's collective incompetence.

Let me know if you've had similar experiences.

Mine just crashed and decided to reprocess all my epubs...

2.6.1

only 22 pages showed up and the aura crashed on power down and went into a long term reboot loop forcing a restore

regards

Jack

If you use calibre I can suggest using the Kobo Utility plugin to save the reading stats on a periodic basis.

It happened on my glo, close to when I got it last fall. Never happened again. Never knew why it happened. Obviously different firmware and different device, so may not mean anything.

Peter--does it also remember which books you've finished and transfer that information over?

I need to look into this Utility; it's one of the ones I haven't monkeyed about with yet.

I believe it does; I did a factory reset yesterday followed by reloading all content, and restoring the stats, and yes... all books on my Finished shelf also show status Finished

I use various custom columns to automate putting books on shelves based on their reading status and all seem fine post restore (and of course, if the stats were not correct, they would end up being removed from the shelves).

Thanks! That's the final thing left that bedevils me if I have to to a reset--remarking every finished book as such. I'm definitely going to poke about with the utility now.

I may have more questions.

No problems; I know I've posted a range of suggestions on configuring / using it, including several ideas on how to automate the creation of "Reading" and "Finshed" shelves.
