Hello All, It's good to find this place
Hi,
I just joined. Per the FAQ, this is just a hello shoutout. I have thousands of ebooks, mostly PDF that I have collected (i.e. hoarded) over the past 6 years. My first goal is to work with newer books to give the file name a standard format: Title, Author, pubdate, publisher, isbn I have been successful so far, for the most part, thanks to finding help in this forum. The next phase will be to find the appropriate data for the fields mentioned. I will certainly be looking for help as I move forward. TIA, as well as THAP,(Thanks for Help Already Provided). Calibre stores books ITS way and that is not going to change. you use Templates to EXPORT books to devices Code:
{title} {authors} {pubdate} {publisher} {isbn} While on the subject of metadata. There is a (configure) Metadata download button on the Preferences screen that you tune the source choices to your tastes. Also note: metadata downloads are deliberately throttled to batches (under 100?) to prevent getting calibre banned or treated as a DOS attack. |

theducks,
Thanks for the tips. I realize that Calibre stores books its own way, and I don't have a problem with that on my main desktop machine and notebook. However, I distribute books to other machines and thumbdrives, in varied collections, and I like the filenames to be succinctly self-descriptive without having to open them and look for the information. The above had all the fields you specified, bet it makes a rather long file name ![]() If you flip things a bit and creat an Author folder first, the books within have a slightly shorter name because Author will now be a folder: Code:
{authors}/{title}/{pubdate}-{publisher}-{isbn} |
