I did a search here at MR and for the money it's a good tablet to read on but since it's running an older version of Android it's not as fast as newer tablets. There isn't a forim dedicated to the VOX at XDA Developers but if you search you can find some threads where people have been able to install Google Play and root the device.

If I hadn't bought the Nook HD+ I might have bought the VOX at this price.

I had one (actually 2). Not a bad little tablet. That's only $4.99 more than I sold mine for as used tablets to BAM, so a very good price.

They are tied to the Kobo store, but have Google Play access. I didn't use mine all that much, but did have a few VOX only books I read on them (graphic N). I decided to sell them while I could get something for them, though, as I was using other tablets over them most of the time.

They are the size of the original Kindle Fire, if that makes any difference (and have their own, special charger).

I did a review back when it came out. It's about the equivalent of the Nook Color hardware wise (but not as locked down). It's pretty decent as a reader and for casual games. Not horrible for video, but not great either. Since it came out they added access to Google Play (last year?) which is nice.

There are quite a few threads in the Kobo forums from back when it came out in 2011.
