Kobo Question

I've recently started using a Mini (on my 3rd book) as a replacement for my Sony PRS300. For me eReaders are all about portability and ease of use when I am out and about. My Sony has done sterling service over the last 3 and a bit years, but with the price of the Mini at the moment..........

So far I am happy, but there is one 'quirk' that I am less than keen on.

When switching the Mini on, there is a loading screen, which goes on for a few seconds, it then displays a selection of books, including the one that I was reading when I switched it off. I have to select the book I was reading, and wait a few more seconds before it brings up the page that I was last reading. Its not a big deal, but with the Sony it was a case of switching on, and the last page was instantly displayed, as I snatch a quick page here, a couple of paragraphs there......the Mini is slowing me down!

Is this common on Kobo devices? and the real question....is there any way to get it to go straight to the last page displayed when switching on or rousing from sleep? I can't find any options on the device for a setting like that.

Its a great little device in all other aspects.......

You can do what you want, if you don't switch it completely off. Just let it go to sleep (if you have it set to go to sleep automatically after, say, 5 minutes), or use a sleep cover, or just push the slider over for a second and put it to sleep that way. There is really no need to turn it all the way off. Personally, I recommend a sleep cover. You can get Kobo's, or a $5 Navitech from Amazon, or an import from ebay.

When the Mini is in a sleep cover, close it to put it to sleep. Open it, and you are right back on the page where you were. I highly recommend a sleep cover!

No, the loading screen only appears when it is booting from a powered-off state. If you put it to sleep without closing the book (just a quick flick of the power slider) it will wake almost instantly back at the page you were reading.

You might want to check your auto-off settings too, it might be that you have it set to power off automatically. I have my Glo set to never power off, but to sleep after 10 minutes inactivity.

Thanks Guys

I have set it to never power off and will see how that goes.

I will also start looking around for a sleep cover, as that sounds like it would do exactly what I want. Unfortunately their retail price is more than I paid for the reader?!.........Hello eBay!

I got the Kobo one but I don't like it.

I am now using one I got from China through Amazon. Not sure if they will ship to your country. Here is the Amazon link. I have to say that mine is defective, though. You'd get a better quality cover, I think, from Gecko in the UK. I much prefer the design of these two covers. There is an 8.99 cover thread here in this forum that shows another option. I have that one too but I prefer the slim style.

Shoot. I was thinking of the Glo. For the Mini, I also got the Kobo cover and don't like it, and have been unable to get a slim fit cover. I am using the 8.99 cover from China, and I also have a Navitech that I got for $5.00 from Amazon. The China cover did not have the sleep function but I added a tiny magnet and now it does. So if find a cover you like, you might be able to add a magnet.
