Kindle indexing

I've been having some battery troubles with my Touch lasting only a few days without doing any reading on it. I've restarted it, turned wifi off and that hasn't helped the issue. So now, I've typed in some random letters to see if it's indexing and the search came up "0 results" but it says: "It's not yet indexed (563)" I'm guessing these were short txt files (less than 5 pages each) but it's hard to say because I consistently add things from mail to Kindle for research.

The 563 items not indexed line means the Kindle is currently indexing, correct?

Correct. From the symptoms, an item's got stuck while indexing, and that's what's causing the rapid battery drain. It's a good idea to load items a few at a time and make sure that indexing's complete before adding any more items.

Thanks. Are there any tools out there that will tell you which file is stuck?

Highlight "not yet indexed (563)" and click on it. You'll see all the books. The one in light grey is the one currently indexing.

Doh, I forget this is a Touch device, and I should have touched that area. There were no greyed out books, but there was one with (saving) in the title that I deleted and it seems to have started the indexing again. Thank you

When I add a lot of books to my kindle I usually do a restsrt every so often, to keep the indexing going if I notice the number has not gone down.

I plugged it into the laptop and it stopped the indexing. Reset and now it's going. Thing is, it's indexing about 5 books every 15-20 minutes, is it normally that slow?

I'd suggest leaving it plugged in to a wall charger while it indexes; it seems to do it a lot faster that way.
