Newb with a really easy question

Sorry if this is a dumb question - once I import all my epubs into Calibre, do I still need to keep them (outside the Calibre library)?

Or can I just download to a temp file and once they're in Calibre delete the original files, since Calibre has it's own library and I *think* it doesn't link back to the original file? If it links to the original file I don't want to delete it obviously, but I don't know why I'd keep them if I'm using Calibre for my book management ....

Ideas/answers appreciated (again, sorry if this is a dumb question)

Welcome

Correct, Calibre doesn't link back to the original file. If you wish to delete them you certainly can.

I personally keep copies of my original downloads filed by store in a "purchase backups" folder to give me an original unaltered copy of my books just in case I need to go back to the start of things since I often alter the files that end up in my Calibre library.

This Duck also files (backs up) the Original purchase (and freebies): by Store on a different drive as I don't trust that I will always be able to retrieve a copy.

Example: Baen severely trimmed their 'Free Library' content when they expanded their e-book distribution channels
