Renaming Books
I can change a book title and author in Calibre but it still shows the original one in the Kindle. Some of my books are in a series and I want to read them in sequence. I add a number before the title and Calbre shows the change and renames the file but internally it seems to keep the original. What am I doing wrong?
REVISE: It looks like the book must be converted again for the change to take effect. Last edited by denmarks; 06-06-2013 at 11:47 AM. Reason: Found answer |

As a general rule, all changes done to library entries in calibre are initially private to calibre. This is because calibre relies on its database to provide the information rather than re-reading it in each file every time you display a library. Re-writing and re-reading this data in the actual book files would take a prohibitive amount of time with anything other than a trivially small library. This is also true of the cover image. Calibre extracts a copy for its own use and changes aren't re-witten into the original book file unless you take certain explicit steps. Most ebook formats require that the book file be rebuilt to make these changes, a relatively slow process. A very, very few formats allow for simpler "insertion" of such changes, though many things can be done in two of the currently most popular formats, ePub and the newer Kindle "KF8" (aka "AZW3") formats. Still, special steps need to be taken to insert changes into these formats. |

There is a program out there that can fix some of the metadata for a Mobi file. It's called Mobi2Mobi. You'll have to search the forum for it.
You can add in a new cover, with it, but you cannot remove the cover that's already there. Mobi is not designed for these sorts of changes. You'd have to unpack the Mobi to fix the cover and then repack it. There can be issues doing this. It may not always come out the same. This is why some convert to ePub, do the work in the ePub, make sure the ePub looks OK and then go back to Mobi from there. |

Changing the actual title is the hard way to go about this. There is a metadata plugboard feature that you can setup that will place the series info in the title on the fly when sent to your Kindle without messing up your library. See the Techniques to use plugboards, custom columns and templates sticky at the top of this forum for examples. |

So, if I've well understood, there no common way to update automatically in the reader all the books that have been modified in Calibre since the moment when they've been sent to Reader ?
I managed more than 15 000 eBooks in Calbre, and nearly 80 % of them are in my Reader. I've chosen PocketBook touch (622), because PocketBooks are the only one I know that are able to manage quickly the books using Folders and Sub folders. It's really painfull to manage when I want to replace in the reader books whose metadatas have been changed or modified since the moment when they've been sent in Reader. |

I used 'Add your own columns' (right click any column header)
to show (Last )'Modified'. Now (with the device connected) you can click the heading to sort on that column: select the books that have a tick in' On Device' and are within the latest modified date range. Do Note: Any change to any tag (even case) used for a book, will cause the Modified timestamp to be updated |

Thanks, That's what I did, but I hoped that another way was possible with less manipulations.
