A factory restore will delete anything that you have saved on your Glo. If you only buy books from Kobo, then it shouldn't matter because everything will be restored from Kobo's servers. If you added your own books (using Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, or you copied them over yourself), make sure you have a backup copy of those books on your computer. If you use Adobe Digital Editions, for purchased books or library books, you may want to backup the activation file too. (Adobe limits the number of devices you can activate, and a factory reset makes it think it's a new device unless you backup and restore the activation file.)

I have heard of troubles downloading updates during the registration process, but people around these parts will help you out if there are problems.

Given those caveats, it's perfectly safe to do a factory reset.

Easy procedure that doesn't remove any books from your reader is logging out then back into to Kobo account on your reader. This might solve your problem.

After recent firmware update to my Kobo touch I had to long out of the reader's Kobo account then back into Kobo account. This did not delete any books on the reader's internal memory or SD card. A couple of long hold on off button to turn off the reader then turning the reader back on forced the reader to rebuild the database for the epub books loaded onto SD card. Lots of books made that a long wait.

Must do a safe to disconnect from desk top software before disconnecting your reader from computer or turning your reader off after loading new book. Not doing this could require reset back to factory state. More than 1 way to reset your reader.

@filmo: It DOES remove all kEpub books (or at least those from the Kobo; not sure about ones sideloaded).

A factory reset in itself is safe. It will replace the updated software with the software that it shipped with and there is very little that can go wrong.

People usually run into issues with the updates during the registration process. If you do run into that problem, just post to this forum and someone will tell you how to do a manual update or bypass the registration process.

I must have blinked while it was reloading my 4 kEpub books onto the reader after logging back into my Kobo account. Never noticed they were gone.

Well, when you do a factory reset, the kepubs will still be there. If your shelves had sideloaded books, these books do not sync.
