Thinking of 5th Generation

I own the Kindle 3 (or Keyboard) and I love it, but it's getting a bit buggy and battered. I'm thinking that the Kindle 5th Gen. is the way to go.

I've tried to develop a liking for the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Paperwhite but have been unable to do so. I don't need a tablet - just a reliable ereader, so the Fire is out. And as nice as the Paperwhite's screen is, I just don't like the touch feature. I find that when trying the PW at the store, it's just too easy to mistakenly activate the page turn or the menu. Maybe I'd get used to it eventually but the plain old 5th Gen. seems like the closest thing to my Kindle 3 (without the K3's extra features that I never used anyway).

My only hesitation is - what does Amazon have up its sleeve. Will there be a Kindle 6th Gen. that's worth waiting for? Or will Amazon abandon the basic Kindle with page turns?

My Kindle 3 still works so I can wait if I have to. But should I?

Is that a morality question? Too many issues to weigh. Environmental devastation. Bolstering the economy. Helping Amazon employees earn a living. Aiding Jeff Bezos's quest for global domination.

Is that a practical question? Only you can answer it. How much is the Kindle 3 bugging you? How are your finances? Will it bug you if something cool comes out later?

Still can't decide? I flipped a quarter. The quarter said wait.

Seems like you might've been holding too high up on the PW. The cutoff seems to be about an inch from the top of the screen.

If I knew Amazon was coming out with a Kindle 6th gen that had some improvements over the current 5th gen, I'd wait for it.

But at this point it's equally likely that Amazon will go touch screen on the Kindle 6th gen, as Barnes and Noble did with its basic Nook. In that case the 5th gen would be vastly preferable to me.

I suspect that it's more than likely. The quarter, however, has spoken. You can't argue with George Washington and the eagle. Unless you're some kind of communist.
