Touchscreen Kaput ?

I haven't used my 18 month old Touch for a week as I have been reading a library book.

I went to use it this morning and it needed a recharge.

I plugged it into the wall outlet and the usual window came up with the CONNECT or CANCEL options. When I tapped CANCEL nothing happened !.

After charging I found that it didn't respond at all to any amount of tapping.

I tried pinhole resets to no avail and eventually did a factory reset.

I also had to update Desktop, then plugged in the Touch updating and synching it.

Now I am stuck at the language screen as it still ignores my taps.

Anyone any ideas or is my touchscreen busted ?

I have noticed that sometimes the screen protectors can obscure the touch sensors. Also a build up of dust can cause a similar issue. Pre haps a simple cleaning or removal of the screen protector will result in a restoration of the touch feature. I guess you cant do a restore to older firmware if you cant access the memory. Unless you remove the memory card and manually drop the firmware files onto the card. Much more difficult as you would have to mount the proper partition to do this.

Good luck.

Try using canned air around the perimeter of the screen too, that could be enough to clear it if there's something stuck along the edge.

Thanks for the replies.
If by "screen protector" you mean the thin stick on plastic sheet, I don't have one due to a problem on another touchscreen device.

I also tried blasting the screen edge with canned air to no avail, and a visual inspection showed it clear.

I'll report it to Kobo to see if they can suggest something.

It's strange that there was no problem when I used it last.

How difficult is it to open up the Touch ?

Has anyone made a video of that on YouTube ?
